What does a Fire Risk Assessment include?

Fire Risk Assessment: Part 1

The assessment will take place in two parts, the first will be to gain evidence of documentation and recordings, which will include: 

Electrical Sources of Ignition

  • Fixed electrical installation test certificate
  • PAT Testing certificate
  • Solar Energy Systems
  • Policy regarding use of personal electrical appliances

Procedures and Arrangements

  • Fire safety arrangements (full evacuation/stay put/vertical/horizontal)
  • Recording of any fires
  • PEEPs (personal emergency evacuation plan)
  • Recording of routine fire safety inspections

Training and Drills

  • Staff Induction
  • Fire safety induction
  • Fire safety training records
  • Fire safety training content
  • Fire drills and evacuation

Testing and Maintenance

  • Fire log book (which may show what is required below)
  • Weekly and 6 monthly fire alarm checks
  • Monthly and annual emergency lighting checks
  • Annual inspection of your fire extinguishers
  • Annual testing of hose reels (if applicable)
  • 6 monthly testing of dry/wet risers (if applicable)
  • Weekly test of sprinkler system
  • Periodic checks of sprinklers, smoke vents and staircases
  • Routine checks of final exit doors / escape routes / extinguishers
  • Annual testing of lightning protection system (if applicable)
  • Recording of restoration of safety measures

Fire Risk Assessment: Part 2

The second part of the assessment will be a walk around of the premises to examine fire safety both internally and externally. This will include but is not limited to: 

 

  • Compartmentalisation
  • Travel distances
  • Fire safety signage.
  • Use of extension leads and adaptors.
  • Adequate number of fire extinguishers.
  • Housekeeping & storage of combustible materials
  • Adequate fire
  • Fire
  • Fire
  • Emergency
  • Escape


Once both elements have been completed, a concise report detailing the findings will be supplied with actions for the responsible person to complete within short, medium and longer term timelines.
